100% Tempranillo (vines average 45 years old) from Rioja Alta. Made by El Coto, an outstanding producer of 70 years standing, and only made in the best years.
The coolness of Rioja Alta combined with clay and limestone soils create wines with the innate acidity required for great ageing potential. Fermentation is in stainless steel for 3-4 weeks with multiple pump overs to give the correct balance between fruit and tannin. Aged for 18 months in new American oak before bottling. Released to market after 42 months bottle maturation.
Pronounced ruby with intense red and black fruit, smoke, vanilla, cocoa, and sweet spices. Medium bodied with great length on the palate, flavours of plum, redcurrant, vanilla and cedar combine to give an approachable wine of great complexity that will appeal to all.
