Bodegas Franco-Espanolas are pioneers of white wine production in the Rioja region, starting in the 1890's. This is a semi-sweet wine made from 100% Viura, the workhorse white varietal in the region.
Whole bunch fermentation on the skins in stainless steel gives a velvety smooth, mouth-filling white wine. No additional addition of sugar is necessary; fermentation is stopped before it's natural completion by chilling.
Medium gold in colour, with aromas of ripe stone fruit, acacia flowers, and a subtle herbaciousness. The sweetness is beautifully balanced by just the right amount of acidity. Delicious as a partner for Spanish blue cheeses such as Picos Blue, or fruity desserts such as pear tarte tatin.
